TERP, the University of Maryland’s award-winning magazine, is a triannual publication that reaches 135,000 households. As a key member of the creative team, I collaborated closely with the Art Director and writing team to conceptualize and execute artwork ideas that complemented each story. My contributions included producing illustrations and assisting the Art Director with page layout.

One of the highlights of my career was spending a day with our photographers, following an adorable pup as he trained to become a service dog. I designed the feature layout to resemble a diary from the pup’s perspective, bringing his journey to life in a playful and immersive way.

For this feature, I created hand-drawn illustrations to highlight the imbalance in free time between mothers and fathers.

One of my favorite parts of working on TERP was creating conceptual illustrations that brought stories to life in unique ways. For example, I illustrated a shy child hiding behind a parent to represent social anxiety and designed the shape of Maryland using hops for a story on UMD’s partnership with Flying Dog Brewery.

Once the magazine was published, I played a crucial role in ensuring the magazine’s visual impact was carried over to the digital realm by publishing the articles to terp.umd.edu using a content management system.

For TERP online, I enjoyed animating illustrations to give them more visual interest.

Smith Business Magazine

Smith Business Magazine is a biannual publication produced by the Robert H. Smith School of Business. In my role, I had the opportunity to contribute to the magazine’s visual impact by producing a range of illustrations, infographics, and cover designs for several issues. My aim was to create visually appealing and engaging designs that enhanced the magazine’s content and captured the attention of readers.

Giving Newsletter

I served as Art Director for Giving Newsletter, a quarterly publication that reaches 14,000 of the University’s most significant donors. In close collaboration with the writing team, I developed visually engaging layouts, covers, and artwork that complemented the articles and enhanced their messaging. To ensure that high-quality images were included in the publication, I communicated with the photography team and oversaw the photo selection process. I also worked closely with the Production Director to ensure that files were sent to print production on schedule.

During my time as Senior Graphic Designer at the University of Maryland, I shared the responsibility of creating daily feature illustrations, infographics, and animations for Maryland Today. This publication served as a daily source of information for the entire campus community, including parents and alumni, and a daily e-digest of top stories was sent out every morning at 6 a.m. It was a fulfilling role that allowed me to utilize my design skills to contribute to a vital aspect of campus life, while also sharing the brand’s stories in an engaging and visually compelling manner.
